31-10-07 The Interviews Workshop, University of Leeds
It's coming towards that time in the application process when you might be invited for a medical interview. In order to help you prepare for this WAMS are putting on the Interviews Workshop, 3:30-5:30 Wednesday 31st October in MTC rooms X and Y in the Worsley Building (Leeds Medical School).
Here you will get lots of useful tips and information on medical interviews and be given a mock interview from medical students (some of whom have been involved in real medical interviews). You will also be given instant feedback on your interview.

You & Your Guts – Saturday 9th June 9:30-13:00, University of Leeds
Have you ever wondered what causes stomach aches, how your diet affects your
guts or how doctors can look inside the guts? Or do you know someone with
Coeliac Disease, IBD or food intolerance? If so, this is the event for you.
Come along and find out the answers to your questions about your guts and how
they work.
Some of the top scientists and doctors at the University of Leeds will be on
hand to demonstrate what the guts do, what can go wrong and how to keep your
guts healthy. You’ll be able to find out about some of the exciting research
going on at the University and have the opportunity to see new inventions being
demonstrated.

You & Your Liver - Saturday 5th May 2007, University of Leeds
Have you ever wondered how alcohol affects your liver, what happens during a liver transplant or how to keep your liver healthy? If so, come along to ‘You & Your Liver' at Saturday 5th May. Some of the top scientists & doctors at the University of Leeds will be on hand to demonstrate what the liver does, what can go wrong and how to keep your liver healthy. You will be able to find out about some of the exciting research going on at the University and have the opportunity to see new inventions being demonstrated.

22-3-07 Introduction to Medicine Conference, University of Leeds9:30 am - 4 pm Thursday 22nd March 2007 (registration from 8:30 am) at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, Worsley Building, Clarendon Way.
This conference is for students in Year 12 or the equivalent who are seriously considering a career in medicine. Mature students are welcome. To be eligible for a place, you must be studying within West Yorkshire.
It aims to give you an insight into what it is like to be a medical student, helping you to decide whether medicine is the right choice for you.
The day includes lectures, discussions and practical sessions on clinical skills, where you can try your hand at some of the clinical skills doctors require!! There will be talks from staff involved in admissions, doctors, academics who teach medicine and current medical students. You will have opportunities to ask questions and seek advice.
It costs £16 per person, including lunch and refreshments.
The conference is very popular and has been over-subscribed in the past so please apply by 21st February.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds presented WAMS with one of the prizes for Leeds Mentoring/Education Leeds company of the year at this year's Leeds Mentoring celebration event.
9-12-06 You and Your Heart, University of Leeds
Have you ever wondered what a heart sounds like, what causes heart attacks or how long you can keep your heart healthy? If so, come along to this exciting learning event and find out the answers to these questions and more. Some of the top scientists and doctors at the University of Leeds will be on hand to answer your quesitons, demonstrate new inventions and let you try out equipment and gadgets. Learn about artificial hearts, find out about pumps, pipes and electrics and have a go at recording your pulse on a mobile phone.

If you are a School in West Yorkshire with a sixth form and think some of your pupils would benefit from having a medical student mentor, then contact us. We pair sixth formers up with medical students via a safe internet area. Medical students can give advice on admissions, interveiws, finding work experience and much more!
15-2-06 Presentation opportunities
If you are a school in West Yorkshire, and think your class would benefit from a presentation/workshop from some medical students then contact us. We gice a range of presentations to year 9/10, where we tie in medicine and key stage 3/4 science, dyspell some of the myths about being a doctor and get interactive! We also do a 'Blind date' scenario using ethics! We can give admissions and interview advice to year 12 and 13.
